I started my career, as software Engineer trainee in Process Systems India (PSI) in early 1980. I had a single course on Fortran language in my M.Sc.(Tech) Applied Electronics). I learnt everything about computers, programming on the job at PSI. When I joined PSI, there were less than 30 people working on 24, Richmond Road Bangalore). Majority of the persons who were working at PSI were either from IIT or IISC. The founders of PSI Dr. V.K.Ravindran and Vinay Deshpande had studies in Stanford and had returned to start their own company in India. We used to work in assembly language, on systems which had less than 64KB memory had black and white display.
My first project was to work on developing an operating system similar to DOS. It was great fun to understand how operating system controls everything. Developing an home grown operating system was challenging. There were occasions, when we skipped going home and worked for 36 hours non-stop. Getting our product used by companies such as TISCO, Nirlon, Asian Paints, Four S, Usha Martin, HMT, Citi Bank, Department of Defence pay office.
This blog is created to recollect the great work done by Dr. V.K.Ravindran (Founder of PSI and PSI Data Systems Pvt. Ltd). Dr. V.K.Ravindran and Vinay Deshpande, founded PSI which focused on developing solutions developed using state of art technologies. Dr. V.K.Ravindran and Vinay Deshpande studied in the Stanford university. They took up challenging projects such as building CNC controllers, Signed contracts with companies in Japan for developing and supplying intelligent terminals for computer based terminals.
I request everyone to share their (Eureka/Yahoo) moments and the sweet memories of working with PSI. They can also share lessons learned by them while working at PSI.
I am grateful to PSI for it gave me an opportunity to learn computers. It also helped me make friends. These friends have supported me in ups and downs in my life.
